Pride unable to recover from dropping tight first set to Northwood

HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue Northwest opened the weekend series against Northwood Friday night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The visiting Timberwolves came out on top in three sets: 26-24, 25-18 and 25-19.

PNW's Bryanna Moonen led the way with 10 kills (.250) while Erica Brohm and Autumn Beaudoin each added six. Brohm was efficient at the net with a .462 hitting percentage. Setter Abigail Negri recorded a double-double effort with 19 assists and 12 digs. Libero Danielle Fowler registered a team-best 20 digs.

Overall, the Pride combined for a .104 team hitting percentage with 32 kills. Northwood swung at a .204 overall team clip.

The opening set featured two huge momentum swings.

PNW (0-9) raced out to a 9-3 lead as Moonen started off hot with five of the nine points. Northwood countered though, and evened the score at 10-10 before the Timberwolves eventually moved ahead 18-12.

Then, Negri held serve on four consecutive points to bring the Pride back to within three. PNW would eventually tie the score at 23-23 with a pair of clutch points from Beaudoin, but Northwood was able to squeak by as a pair of PNW attack errors ended it.

PNW led early in both of the final sets, but couldn't sustain enough scoring runs to overcome the Timberwolves.

Northwood (7-4) was led by Mackenzie Kepler and Grace Rekeweg who both logged double-doubles. Kepler had 11 kills and 14 digs. Rekeweg produced 11 kills and 16 digs.
