HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue Northwest opened the weekend series against Northwood Friday night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The visiting Timberwolves came out on top in three sets: 26-24, 25-18 and 25-19.
PNW's
Bryanna Moonen led the way with 10 kills (.250) while
Erica Brohm and
Autumn Beaudoin each added six. Brohm was efficient at the net with a .462 hitting percentage. Setter
Abigail Negri recorded a double-double effort with 19 assists and 12 digs. Libero
Danielle Fowler registered a team-best 20 digs.
Overall, the Pride combined for a .104 team hitting percentage with 32 kills. Northwood swung at a .204 overall team clip.
The opening set featured two huge momentum swings.
PNW (0-9) raced out to a 9-3 lead as Moonen started off hot with five of the nine points. Northwood countered though, and evened the score at 10-10 before the Timberwolves eventually moved ahead 18-12.
Then, Negri held serve on four consecutive points to bring the Pride back to within three. PNW would eventually tie the score at 23-23 with a pair of clutch points from Beaudoin, but Northwood was able to squeak by as a pair of PNW attack errors ended it.
PNW led early in both of the final sets, but couldn't sustain enough scoring runs to overcome the Timberwolves.
Northwood (7-4) was led by Mackenzie Kepler and Grace Rekeweg who both logged double-doubles. Kepler had 11 kills and 14 digs. Rekeweg produced 11 kills and 16 digs.
