CALEDONIA, Mich. – Freshman
Christian Booth scored his first career goal in the 70th minute to lift Purdue Northwest men's soccer over Davenport 2-1 on Sunday.
PNW won the battle between undefeated GLIAC squads, improving to 3-0 on the season. The last time PNW logged three consecutive victories came at the end of the 2018 season to clinch a spot in the GLIAC Tournament.
The Pride are one of two unbeaten teams (Saginaw Valley State) remaining in the conference table.
Booth, a forward from Mississauga, Ontario, broke loose on a breakaway and beat the DU keeper to snap a 1-1 tie.
PNW scored first and grabbed a 1-0 lead on
Josue Espinoza's first goal of the season. Espinoza found the back of the net off a cross from
Isaiah Nieves, who was credited with the assist.
Then, the Panthers put home the equalizer shortly after as the two teams entered halftime tied at 1-1. DU's Yovany Duran scored his first goal of the season on a 25-yard strike in the 21st minute.
Davenport held the 15-9 advantage in overall shots, but PNW recorded six of its nine shots on goal while the Panthers' only shot on frame came on the Duran goal.
PNW's
Raul Garrido Garcia picked up his third win, but it was a total team effort on defense as Raul didn't have to record a save.
DU held the slight edge in corner kick tries, 6-4, with four of those coming in the second half.
