COLUMBUS, Ohio – Run-scoring doubles from
Ashley Bravo and
Amanda Noblett in the seventh inning were all the offense that the Purdue Northwest softball team could muster in a 3-2 loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican.
ODU would complete the weekend three-game series sweep with an 11-3 win in six innings in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
In the first game, the Panthers built a 3-0 lead and ODU's Sydney Long was untouchable in the circle for the first six innings, but Noblett broke up the perfect game attempt in the top of the sixth with a single to left center.
Jocelyn Gault also singled to left center in the next at-bat to give the Pride (2-6) their first run scoring threat, but a flyout and back-to-back groundouts ended the threat.
With one out in the top of the seventh,
Taylor Stevens smacked a pitch into right field. Bravo then drove Stevens in with her double to right center.
Jessica Weaver drew a walk before Noblett collected her run-scoring double to right center to score Bravo.
A strikeout and popup ended the game with the Panthers (6-5) taking the 3-2 decision.
In Game 2, ODU built a 2-0 in the bottom of the first, but the Pride answered with a run in the second and third innings.
With two outs in the top of the second,
Kara Aloisio belted her first home run of the season.
Aubrey Shroyer tallied her second home run of the season when she led off the top of the third. Shroyer's homer drew the Pride as close as they would get on the day before the Panthers would score six in the third and three in the fourth.
Shroyer would conclude the scoring for either team when she laced a double to centerfield to plate
Sabryna Stanley, who led off the inning with a double of her own.
Weaver took the Game 1 loss for PNW and
Emma Hill dropped to 0-2 in the circle with the Game 2 loss.
