Women's Basketball takes on Ashland in GLIAC Tournament

3/1/2021 8:15:00 PM

HAMMOND, Ind. – The 11th-seeded Purdue Northwest women's basketball team will travel to sixth-seeded Ashland for Tuesday's opening-round matchup in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST inside Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.

The first round of conference tournament action is hosted at campus sites, before the rest of the games move to PNW's campuses in Hammond & Westville.

PNW (4-14) will make its first postseason appearance since making the transition to NCAA Division II. The Pride are led by preseason All-GLIAC sophomore guard Savaya Brockington, who finished the regular season averaging a team-high 15.7 points per game. Senior guard/forward Danielle Nennig also averages double figures at 11.9 points and team-high 5.7 rebounds per contest.

PNW's last postseason win came in the final year of NAIA play when it received an at-large bid to the 2017 national tournament.

Ashland (11-7), which makes its final appearance at the GLIAC Tournament before moving to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), is no stranger to the postseason. The Eagles are the five-time defending GLIAC Tournament champion and have won 15 consecutive GLIAC Tournament games. Ashland swept both games against PNW this season at Kates Gymnasium back on Feb. 12-13. The Eagles are led by sophomore forward Annie Roshak (20.9 ppg) and senior forward Karlee Pireu (19.6 ppg/8.0 rpg).
