PARK FOREST, Ill. – The Purdue Northwest men's and women's tennis teams fought valiantly but were swept by Hillsdale College on Saturday afternoon at the Park Forest Tennis Club.

The PNW women's tennis team nearly defeated the Chargers but fell to 2-2 on the season following a 4-3 loss.

The Pride started the match by dropping the doubles point despite the duo of Julia Yanes-Barrera and Carolina Yepez taking the No. 3 doubles flight 6-3 over Hillsdale's Ellie Chawner and Tatum Matthews.

Yanes-Barrera would easily defeat Elli Formentin 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles flight and PNW would see Patricia Dizon and Nicole Uzcategui also take their singles matches.

Dizon defeated Sophia Spinazze 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-fought three set match in the No. 3 flight.

Uzcategui lost the first set in the No. 4 singles flight to take down Helana Formentin in a reverse sweep 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Hillsdale took the top two women's singles flights and finished the match win as Ellie Chawner took down PNW's Yepez 4-6. 6-4, 6-1.

The Hillsdale women's tennis squad improved to 3-0 with the win.

As did the Chargers men's tennis team with a 7-0 sweep of the Pride, but it was anything but an easy victory as PNW narrowly missed out on three singles and played close throughout all three doubles matches.

The PNW duo of Miguel Agustin Flores Cepeda and Levent Evyapan lost the No. 1 doubles flight to Hillsdale's Tyler Conrad and Sean Barstow 7-6 (4).

Conrad would have to go to three sets to defeat Flores Cepeda 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match.

PNW's Luca Kirchhoff dropped the first set of his No. 3 singles flight 6-1 before clawing back to take the second set 6-2. Barstow would win an extremely tight third set 7-5.

Levent Evyapan was in a marathon match with Hillsdale's Brian Hackman as Hackman took set one 7-5 before Evyapan evened the match with a 6-3 second set win before dropping the third set 10-8.

With the loss, the Pride men's tennis team falls to 1-2 on the season.
