HAMMOND, Ind. — The Purdue Northwest women's basketball team earned its first league win after fending off Davenport in overtime, 73-65, at
John Friend Court Saturday afternoon.
PNW improved to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while DU dropped to 0-8 on the season. Six of the previous nine matchups between these two teams have been decided by single digits. PNW holds a 7-2 record in those matchups.

How it happened: In a game that featured 10 lead changes, PNW built an 11-point advantage at halftime, but was forced to overcome a late deficit as the visiting Panthers used a big third quarter to gain control.
A 9-0 run to close the second quarter gave the Pride a 40-29 advantage going into the locker room. A three-point play from
Kennedy Jackson (Carson, Calif./Redondo Union), followed by a pair of McDowell threes gave PNW all the momentum heading to the third quarter.
However, the pendulum swung in DU's favor as the Panthers raced out on a 13-2 run and grabbed the lead going to the final period ahead, 48-47. The Pride were outscored 19-7 in the third frame.
In the fourth quarter, a pair of Galbraith free throws cut the deficit to two, 59-57, with under four minutes remaining. Then a pair of Shaw free throws tied it 61-61 with under a minute left to send the game to overtime.
Shaw kept the hot hand going in the extra stanza and her layup to start the period gave PNW its first lead since the third quarter. The two teams would trade baskets until a made free throw from Jackson put the Pride in front, 67-65, with a minute left. Shaw put the Pride ahead for good when she provided another clutch bucket – a driving scoop layup with 35 seconds left for a 69-65 lead.
DU's Toni Grace led four Panthers in double figures with 18 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe. Lillee Gustafson recorded a 13-point, 13-rebound performance.
