WESTVILLE, Ind. — The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Grand Valley State Saturday inside H.D. Kesling Gymnasium in Westville. The Lakers won by final set scores of 25-19, 25-15 & 25-19.
Riley Kraiza led the Pride with nine kills while
Bryanna Moonen produced six.
Summer Clark,
Erica Brohm and
Olivia Brooke each chipped in with three kills, each. Brooke finished with 20 assists and nine digs.
PNW registered an overall .141 team hitting percentage while the visitors recorded a mark of .277.
The Pride led 5-4 and started strong in the opening set after a kill from Kraiza and an ace from
Alexis Wade. But, the Lakers created separation after the set was tied at 7-7, gaining a five-point lead that PNW couldn't recover from.
In the second set, a Moonen kill put PNW in front 2-1 as the Pride remained withing striking distance for the majority of the frame. Trailing 16-13 later on, PNW's momentum ran dry after the visitors closed on a 9-2 run to claim the set.
PNW grabbed its largest lead of the night in the third set when it moved ahead 9-5. Two early kills from Moonen got the ball rolling for the Pride as
Caleigh Smith recorded an ace, and Kraiza and Brooke added kills during the early spurt. The set remained tight the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than three until GVSU made another late run. The Lakers led 19-18 and then rattled off six of the final points.
