Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big fourth quarter lifts PNW over Roosevelt, 92-73

HAMMOND, Ind. — Savaya Brockington scored 23 points to lead five players in double figures as the Purdue Northwest women's basketball team defeated former CCAC rival Roosevelt in the home opener at the Fitness & Recreation Center.

Following the win, PNW improved to 2-1 overall on the year for the program's best start to a season in the Division II era. RU, who is coached by former PNW assistant Charnelle Reed, dropped to 2-4 on the season.

STAT LEADERS
  • Savaya Brockington registered a season-high 23 points with eight boards, four assists and four steals
  • Dash Shaw finished with 17 points after leading the team with 12 at halftime
  • Reagan Courier posted a career-high 13 points in her PNW debut with three treys and five assists
  • Laila Rogers (12 pts/4 reb) and Abbie McDowell (11 pts/6 reb/3 ast) also reached double figures in their PNW debut
  • Anjel Galbraith dished out a team-best seven assists with nine points

How it happened: PNW drained six threes and blew the game open by outscoring the visitors 32-18 in the fourth quarter. It was the second-most points ever scored in one quarter during a PNW win in team history (most in team's NCAA Division II era). The Pride led by five after three periods before going off in a contest that saw neither team lead by double digits until the final stanza.

PNW began the fourth quarter on a 16-4 run, sparked by Galbraith's three and eight points from Brockington during the spurt. Reagan Courier's three midway through the final frame gave the Pride an 18-point lead and put the game out of reach for good. PNW shot nearly 70% in the fourth quarter.

RU erased a nine-point deficit midway through the third by grabbing a 46-45 lead on a 13-3 run of its own. But, that was the last lead the Lakers would hold on the night.

UP NEXT
PNW will begin a stretch of five straight road games with Tuesday's non-conference tilt at Lewis University (5 p.m.).
