Nieves' magic not enough as PNW falls short in GLIAC semifinal

RACINE, Wis. — The fourth-seeded Purdue Northwest men's soccer team fell 3-2 to top-seeded Parkside in freezing temps during Friday night's GLIAC Semifinal hosted at Pritchard Park.

PNW closes out the year with a 9-9-1 overall record after making its first-ever appearance in the semifinal round of the GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament.

Isaiah Nieves scored both goals and Ryan Moran added an assist to lead the Pride. Nieves ends his career as the all-time points leader in team history with 65. The senior midfielder led the Pride with nine goals, 13 assists and 31 points this season.

Parkside struck early in the match with a goal in the fourth minute, but PNW were able to get organized as Nieves knocked in the equalizer in the 33rd minute to tie the score at 1-1.

Then, the Rangers scored just before halftime and again right after the break for a 3-1 lead, but it was Nieves again coming up clutch to slice the deficit to one in the 58th minute.

PNW had several chances as it built up pressure in the second half, but couldn't find the lucky bounce. Overall, total shots were even at 17 each with the Rangers holding a 10-7 edge in shots on frame.

Goalkeeper Sebastian Contreras notched six saves for the Pride.

Parkside advances to the GLIAC Championship match on Sunday against No. 2 seed Davenport.
