Pride take Parkside to five sets in thrilling match

HAMMOND, Ind. — Purdue Northwest fell 3-2 (25-10, 15-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-9) to Parkside Saturday afternoon at the Fitness & Recreation Center. It was the first five-set match of the season for the Pride.

Riley Kraiza (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Summer Clark (Chicago, Ill.) each produced double-double performances to lead the Pride attack. Kraiza finished with a team-high 12 kills with 14 digs and four aces to total 16.5 points. Clark put down 11 kills with 15 digs. Lauren Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind.) also reached double digits in the kills column with 10.

Olivia Brooke (Logansport, Ind.) handed out 38 assists and recorded a team-best 20 digs. Defensively, libero Alexis Wade (Union Mills, Ind.) and Caleigh Smith (Marengo, Iowa) notched double-digit digs with 18 and 13, respectively. The Pride tallied a season-high 90 digs — the most in a regular-season match during the program's NCAA Division II era.

PNW (2-20, 0-11 GLIAC) came up two points shy of clinching the match in four sets. With the score tied at 23-23 in the fourth, Parkside was able to record the final two points to force the deciding set. The Pride rallied in the fourth from an 18-12 deficit to nearly pull off the win.

In the fifth set, Parkside jumped out to a 7-3 lead and held off the Pride from making another comeback attempt. PNW sliced the deficit to two in the final frame after back-to-back kills from Sanders and Clark made it 11-9. However, the Rangers registered the final four points to clinch the match.

Parkside's Rachel Hedman led the Rangers with 14 kills and 19 digs, along with Jessica Pappas who recorded 14 kills.
