Booth's second-half brace leads PNW to victory

The short story: After a 1-1 match at halftime, sophomore forward Christian Booth (Mississauga, Ontario) scored twice in the second half to lead Purdue Northwest men's soccer past Upper Iowa on the road Sunday afternoon.

  • PNW remains in second place in the GLIAC standings with five regular season matches left, including two home games next weekend.
  • The Pride have scored at least two goals in 9 of 12 matches – including five straight outings.

  • Booth recorded his first brace as a member of the Pride and became the first PNW player to score twice in a match this season. He's second on the team in goals with four.
  • Ryan Moran (Attadale, Australia), who leads PNW in goals, scored first for the Pride on Sunday to even the match at 1-1 before halftime. He tallied three points in the match after dishing out an assist on Booth's first goal.

  • Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill.) ran his assist total to a new career-high eight on the season with two more helpers on Sunday. He provided the assist on Moran's first-half goal and also on Booth's second goal. He's had two assists in four games this year.
  • Nieves needs four assists to break the PNW single-season record. He already owns the career assist record for the Pride men's soccer program with 16.
  • Nieves also needs 10 points to break the program's career record.
  • Josue Espinoza (Chicago, Ill.) also logged an assist on Booth's second goal on Sunday.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sebastian Contreras (Joliet, Ill.) was credited with a pair of saves and picked up his seventh win between the pipes.
  • PNW stayed undefeated against Upper Iowa with an all-time record of 4-0-1 against the Peacocks – including four straight wins.
UP NEXT
PNW returns home for a pair of rematches against Parkside (Fri.) and Northern Michigan (Sun.) next weekend. Sunday will feature a brief recognition of the Pride seniors prior to the start of the match.
