Women's Basketball travels to LSSU for first road trip

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team travels to Lake Superior State University in search of its first win this weekend. Tipoff for both games against the Lakers is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST/noon CST on Saturday and Sunday.

PURDUE NORTHWEST STORYLINES
  • PNW (0-2) will look for its first win of the season against the Lakers (0-2) in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
  • The Pride are 2-1 in conference road openers since joining the GLIAC prior to the 2017-18 season. Both wins were against Davenport, including a one-point victory in last year's league opener, 77-76, in head coach Courtney Locke's first season at the helm.
  • PNW's last GLIAC win also came against Davenport in a 75-72 home victory over the Panthers on Feb. 1, 2020.
  • PNW is looking to snap a nine-game losing streak in league games, dating back to last season, and four-game slide in road openers on Saturday. The last victory in a road opener for PNW came on Nov. 14, 2015, when the Pride defeated Mount Mercy (IA), 79-72.
  • Through two games, PNW is led by five players that are averaging at least 7.5 points.
  • Junior Molly DeValkenaere produced a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double performance in last Saturday's narrow two-point defeat against Michigan Tech.
  • PNW opened that game with a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never trailed until two minutes left in the contest. The Pride have now played  
  • Sophomore Anjel Galbraith and senior Danielle Nennig both scored 11 points the last time out.
  • The Pride are shooting 33 percent overall from the field and 23 percent from three-point range. 
CLOSER LOOK AT LAKE SUPERIOR STATE
  • Lake Superior State went 0-2 in a pair of double-digit road setbacks at Wayne State with both games played earlier in the week on Monday and Tuesday.
  • LSSU is led by fourth-year head coach Brandon Lokken
  • The Lakers were picked to finish sixth in the GLIAC North Division preseason poll after finishing the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 8-19 (3-17 GLIAC).
  • Sophomore guard Morgot Woughter leads the way with 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
  • In Tuesday's loss, freshman guard Abbey Krugh shot 5 of 10 from three-point range to finish with a team-high 17 points. She also grabbed six boards and had two steals.
  • Through two games, the Lakers are shooting 28 percent overall from the field and 27 percent from beyond the arc.
SERIES HISTORY
  • LSSU leads the all-time series 4-2 with five of the six meetings decided by single digits.
  • The teams split road wins last season as the Lakers pulled out a 65-62 overtime win in Hammond back on Feb. 22, 2020 in the most recent meeting.
  • PNW claimed a 54-46 triumph on Jan. 23, 2020 as Brockington (15) and Galbraith (13) each scored double figures in their first trip to Sault Ste. Marie.
