PNW Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest Against Michigan Tech

The Pride fell on the road against the Huskies 82-72

PURDUE NORTHWEST 72, MICHIGAN TECH 82
The Purdue University Northwest Men's Basketball team took to the road for a weekend of GLIAC competition, kicking of the trip by taking on the Michigan Tech Huskies in Houghton, Michigan on Thursday, February 6.

HEAR FROM COACH BOOMER ROBERTS
"So many of our GLIAC games are five points or less with five minutes to go, and today was no different," said Roberts. "We came in with a game plan and had played pretty well, just Michigan Tech made more winning plays in clutch moments. They beat us to loose balls, got a couple of huge O-Boards, and made us pay with big threes and free throws. Freels, Boyle, Spring and Allison played well, but we need a focused effort from everyone for a full 40 minutes to win in this league. 'Close' is starting to sound like an awful word, and it is time we take a stand and finish a game."

HOW IT HAPPENED

A theme for the entirety of the game, offensive spurts went back and forth in the first half, ending with the Pride trailing by four points with a score of 34-30. PNW was shooting 12-26 (46%) from the field and 3-6 (50%) from behind the arc. Keeping up the pressure, PNW kept up with Michigan Tech throughout the second half until the closing whistle, ending the contest with the Huskies claiming the 10-point victory.

WHO LED THE WAY FOR THE PRIDE
Jyrus Freels scored 20 points for the Pride, shooting 8-16 from the field while eight rebounds and two assists. Chandler Spring collected 17 points, including five three-pointers, and Gregory Boyle recorded 13 points, shooting 56% from the field and 60% from three himself.
