PNW Defeats Northwood For Their Second-Straight Conference Win

PNW Defeats Northwood 61-52 for their second-straight conference victory

WESTVILLE, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest Women's Basketball team hosted the Northwood University Timberwolves on Saturday afternoon on the Westville campus. Eight members of the Pride played at least 10 minutes, helping lead to a 61-52 victory for PNW in their second-straight GLIAC conference win.

As a team, Purdue Northwest (4-9, 3-2 GLIAC) outshot the Timberwolves (2-11, 0-5 GLIAC) 37% to 29%. The Pride also outscored Northwood in points off turnovers (16-6), fast break points (13-3), second-chance points (9-3) and points in the paint (26-20). PNW's defense was to credit for this, according to Head Coach Courtney Locke.

"So proud of this team," said Locke. "We are getting it done on the defensive end and it's a joy to watch."

Statistical leaders included Savaya Brockington, who led the Pride with 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Brockington also tied for the team lead with four steals in her 36 minutes of action. Anjel Galbraith scored 14 points with six rebounds and four steals as she played all 40 minutes for the third time this season. Kennedy Jackson collected nine points, seven rebounds and two assists. Tayler Vauters recorded multiple personal season-highs with seven rebounds and 24 minutes played.

"Tayler stepped up today and was huge defensively," Locke said. "I'm happy to see her hard work pay off! Kennedy's energy is contagious and spreads throughout our team, and Savaya and Anjel played such a solid game. Their consistency is huge for our team."

The PNW Men's Basketball team followed with an emphatic 76-63 home victory over Northwood for their first GLIAC conference win of the season. Saturday also marked the first time in PNW history that both the Women's and Men's Basketball teams won a GLIAC conference game on the same day.

PNW Women's Basketball continues their homestand on Thursday, January 9, as they host the Northern Michigan Wildcats. Tipoff at the Westville campus is set for 5 p.m. (CT).
