ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- PNW opened up the 2019 season on Thursday night against the Lewis University Flyers. After a defensive, hard fought first half and a key stop by the Pride with 31 minutes remaining in the game, Lewis scored late to set the score at 1-0 (61'). In the end, the Pride were unable to overtake the Flyers, finishing with a score of 1-0.
"The Flyers are definitely going to win a lot of games in the GLVC [Great Lakes Valley Conference]," said Head Coach Ryan Hayes. "They had a fantastic backline that was very hard to penetrate. We definitely need to improve in certain areas, but I think it was a well-played game between two very good teams."
The Pride took three shots, had one on goal, and recorded three saves from Goalkeeper Raul Garrida Garcia (Madrid, Spain/Menesiano). PNW is already looking forward to their next matchup and will continue to improve as they get closer to GLIAC competition.
The PNW Pride will return to action on Saturday, September 7th at Dowling Park, where they will take on the Truman State Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. during the Fall Sports Festival.
