PNW Drops Hard-Fought Dual Matchup Against Ashland

Box Score

GRIFFITH, Ind. -- PNW Women's Tennis welcomed Ashland University to Match Point Tennis Complex on Sunday morning. In many hard fought matches by the Pride, PNW ultimately fell to the Ashland Eagles 4-3.

In her singles match, Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill./ St. Viator) defeated Gabriella Hudec in straight sets of 6-2 and 6-2. In a much closer singles match, Julia Yanes-Barrera took down Camille Ringot in a third set tiebreaker (2-6, 7-5, 10-7).

"Great matches through doubles and singles action today," said Head Coach Lucian Tabic. "We came through early by winning the doubles point, which was one of the things we discussed with our players the last few weeks. Anna Wachowski and Carolina Yepez put us up early, and Lena Van Bergen and Patricia Dizon clinched the doubles. Olivia Kjaer had a great singles match, and her effort out there was terrific."

The Pride won two out of three doubles matches, including Lena Van Bergen (Wesel, Germany/Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium)/Patricia Dizon triumphing over Eagles duo Anna Hart/Brianna Brdicka 6-1. In a similarly dominant fashion, Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecquador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo)/Anna Wachowski (Scherillville, Ind./ Lake Central) defeated Rusu/Hazuki Ogino 6-2.

The Pride will next appear in action in Grand Rapids, Michigan for the ITA Regionals, beginning on September 20th.
