Box Score 2 UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest softball team was unable to rally in the second game as the Pride dropped both games of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to Saginaw Valley State Friday. The Cardinals won the opening game, 7-2, before taking the second contest, 5-4.
GAME 2: SV 5, PNW 4
PNW started off the scoring in the second game with two in the top of the third inning. However, SV responded in a big way with four runs in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 4-2.
The Pride got one back the next inning after Shailen Johnson (West Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Harrison) scored on an error to make it 4-3.
PNW tied it the very next inning after Taylor Kotzo (Munster, Ind./Munster) singled to right center scoring Madi Schultz (Lafayette, Ind./Faith Christian).
However, SV rallied and took the lead in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 5-4. The score would hold up with the Cardinals winning 5-4.
GAME 1: SV 7, PNW 2
SV started off on a high note with three runs in the opening frame to go ahead 3-0.
The Cardinals added another run couple innings later in the third inning to go up 4-0.
Expanding the lead to 7-0 was SV who added three more tallies the following inning in the fourth.
PNW was able to add two back in the top of the sixth inning to make it 7-2. Schultz
ripped an RBI single to left center that scored Kara Aloisio (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) from second base.
Kotzo grounded out to second which scored Johnson to make it 7-2. That score would stand as the Pride dropped the first game 7-2.
Mia Stevens (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) recorded the loss (7-10) on the mound, after going four innings and allowing three runs (two earned).
PNW returns to action Saturday, April 27 as the Pride travel to Ashland for a doubleheader against the Eagles starting at 11 a.m. CT.
