Softball Dominates Doubleheader in Conference Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kenosha, Wis. – The Purdue Northwest softball team captured a pair of wins Saturday as they visited the Parkside Rangers for a double header. They outscored UWP by a staggering 25-2 margin as they won the first game 10-0 and had the day's finale called after five innings with a 15-2 win.

GAME ONE

Madison Schultz got the scoring started for the Pride as she grounded out to second base bringing Heather O'Kelly across for a 1-0 lead. Zoee Anderson scored on the next play after an error in LF, and the Pride put a two-spot on the board in the first inning.

Schultz once again was the producer for PNW as she doubled in the second inning to bring across several more runs as the lead was pushed out to 4-0 after two.

Kalyn Learnard knocked in another run in the fourth as her sacrifice fly brought Olivia Sardella home. After four innings the Pride led 5-0.

The Pride added two more in the fifth and a Madison Schultz home run along with a Taylor Mendenhall RBI double in the top of the sixth led to the score being 10-0 as a final after six innings. Schultz, just a freshman, tallied five RBI and hit her first home run of the season.

GAME TWO

PNW certainly kept the theme going in the second game of the day as Schultz homered in her second consecutive at-bat as part of a four-run first inning.

After the Rangers responded with their first two runs of the day, Heather O'Kelly doubled bringing home Amanda Noblett and Learnard grounded out to bring O'Kelly in, making the score 6-2 after two.

Noblett picked up right where she left off in the third as she blasted a home run out to right center field, which brought home Sabryna Stanley to make it 9-2 after three innings.

The Pride finally broke the game open and provided the final margin in the fourth, as Mendenhall drove in Learnard on a groundout to shortstop, followed by five more runs, including a three RBI triple from Taylor Kotzo. The game ended after five innings with a final of 15-2.

The Black and Gold will return to Hammond tomorrow as they host the Davenport Panthers for a Sunday doubleheader. First pitch of game one will be at 12 p.m.
