Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – The Purdue University Northwest softball team split its third day of the PFX games Thursday afternoon.
Game 1: PNW 6, Nyack 3
The Pride struck first in the top of the 1st inning, as Zoee Anderson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jefferson) drove in Heather O'Kelly (Worth, Ill./Shephard) and later scored to put the Pride ahead, 2-0.
The Black and Gold kept its offense going in the second inning, when O'Kelly and Anderson recorded back-to-back home runs over the center field fend to put PNW ahead, 4-0.
Nyack would eventually score in the bottom of the second, but the Pride would get that run back in the top half of the third on an RBI-single from Amanda Noblett (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) which scored Taylor Mendenhall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and gave the black-and-gold a 5-1 advantage.
Nyack would record three runs in the bottom of the third to cut in to their deficit, but Brianne Plank (Cary, Ill./Cary) would drive in Noblett later in the game to extend the Pride's lead, 6-3, which would be the final.
Sam Burgard (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) earned her first win in the circle on the season, pitching a complete game with five strike outs and allowing two earned runs.
Game 2: Minnesota Duluth 6, PNW 1
After the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first four innings of play, the Pride were able to get on the board.
Shailen Johnson (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) drove in Tessa Steffens (Litchfield, Ind./Litchfield) on a shot to left center which put Duluth ahead, 3-1.
The Bulldogs were able to put across three more runs which was the rest of the offense in the game as they came away with the 6-1 victory.
The Pride return to action for its final two games in Florida on Saturday, March 16 when they face off with Salem University and New York Tech.
