HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Freshman Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) won at No. 2 singles and freshman Gregory Kvint (Philadephia, Penn./Lower Moreland) picked up the victory at No. 3 singles but it was not enough as the Hillsdale Chargers defeated the Pride, 5-2, at the Margot V. Biermann Center, Saturday.
Hillsdale won two out of the three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0 going into singles competition. Kah and junior Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) won at No. 2 doubles in a tie-breaker against Hillsdale's John Ciraci and Michael Szabo, 7-6 (7-4).
Kah defeated Hillsdale's Justin Hyman in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Kvint won at No. 3 singles against HC's Szabo, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Mauricio Villacres (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and sophomore Dru Kennedy (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) almost pulled off the victory at No. 3 doubles but ultimately fell to Julien Clouette and Brian Hackman, 7-5.
Kennedy won four games in the first set at No. 6 singles but one in the second set and dropped his match against Hillsdale's Gabe Katz. Passett won two games in each of his sets at No. 4 singles but lost his match to Ciraci, 6-2, 6-2.
Villacres was able to win two games in the first and a pair in the second, however Hillsdale's Clouette defeated him at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Moritz Gisy (Duesseldorf, Germany) picked up a victory in the first set and two in the other but Hillsdale's Charlie Adams won the match, 6-1, 6-2.
PNW has a quick turnaround as the Pride travel to Lexington, Ohio to take on the Tiffin Dragons, match time scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
