LEXINGTON, Ohio -- Senior Moritz Gisy (Duesseldorf, Germany) won his match at No. 1 singles but the Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Tiffin, 6-1, at Lakewood Racquet Club, Sunday. Gisy picked up the victory at No. 1 singles against Tiffin's S. de la Rosa Mora, 6-2, 6-7 (0-4), 6-3.
Tiffin started the match winning all two out of the three matches at doubles competition to go ahead 1-0. Gisy and freshman Joseph Kvint (Philadephia, Penn./Lower Moreland) won at No. 1 singles against Tiffin's Tom Arias and Sorin Navrotchi, 7-5.
Senior Mauricio Villacres (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and sophomore Dru Kennedy (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) went to a tie-breaker at No. 3 doubles but Tiffin's Austin Mohamedali and de la Rosa Mora were victorious 7-6 (5-0).
Kvint came up close at No. 3 singles but ultimately fell against Tiffin's Navrotchi, 7-6, (4-0), 6-2. Junior Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) won four games in the first set and three in the second at No. 4 singles but Toby Cutting won the match, 6-4, 6-3.
Kennedy picked up four games in the first set but was unable to secure the victory at No. 6 singles against Tiffin's Hugo Chatras, 6-4, 6-0. Villacres won a game in each of his sets but Tom Arias was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) got one game in the opening set and two in the second but Nikita Parfenov won the match, 6-1, 6-2.
PNW returns to action Friday, February 15 as the Pride travel to William Jewell to take on the Cardinals.
