ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Coming off a conference victory against the Davenport University Panthers, the Purdue University Northwest Women's Basketball team continued their weekend in Michigan by taking on the Grand Valley State University Lakers on Saturday, December 7. The Pride would ultimately split the weekend, falling to the No. 3 ranked GVSU with a final score of 46-74.
At the end of the first half, the Pride (2-6, 1-1 GLIAC) trailed Grand Valley State (8-0, 2-0 GLIAC) with a score of 17-41. After the first twenty minutes of competition, PNW had shot a field goal percentage of 14.8% and a free throw percentage of 75%, collecting 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal along the way. When they returned to the court for the third quarter, PNW showed a renewed enthusiasm with No. 4 Savaya Brockington putting up the first layup of the half.
"In a tough loss against a very good team, you still have to execute the game plan despite the score and I thought we did that in the second half," said Head Coach Courtney Locke. "We held them to only two made 3-pointers for the game and 33 points in the second half. We have to grow and get better from this, which I believe we will."
By the end of play, the Pride had collectively recorded 46 points, 27 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. They were led on the scoresheet by Brockington with 14 points, No. 1 Anjel Galbraith with 11 points, and No. 3 Bayley Goodman and No. 44 Molly DeValkenaere with seven points each.
The Pride will next be in action on the road to take on the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Monday, December 16. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (CT).
