PNW Battles It Out Against Wayne State; Drops Matchup in Three Sets

The PNW Pride took o the court against the Wayne State Warriors, ending the game with a final score of 0-3

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue Northwest Volleyball team took to the John Friend Court on Friday, November 1 to face the visiting Wayne State Warriors. In an embattled three sets, the Pride would ultimately drop the competition with a final score of 0-3.

"Tonight was a nice response to Tuesday's game against Illinois Springfield," said Head Coach Julie Wiejak. "We set a lot of good goals for ourselves to work on and the team applied a lot of those to tonight's game. I think this sets a great foundation for the rest of our conference games, two of which are at home. To see the ladies put these changes into action tonight makes me really proud and happy with where our mindset is for the rest of our season."

The Pride closed the three sets with final scores of 17-25, 19-25 and 17-25, respectively. It was in the final set that PNW put the pressure on the Warriors, trading points back and forth in a tight contest resulting in a 9-9 tie. The Warriors would eventually surge ahead, opening up a three point lead on PNW at 18-15 before pushing forward to the final win.

PNW was led on the scoresheet by Annie Pulizos with seven kills and two aces, Holly Faley with 22 assists and two blocks, and Danielle Fowler with 14 digs. Purdue Northwest now looks ahead to their next home matchup on the Westville campus where they will take on the Ashland University Eagles.

"Ashland is the team we've played best against so far this season," said Wiejak. "Our game on the road against them was one of our best this season. Our matchup at home tomorrow looks really good for us. We can definitely build on what we did tonight and move forward into tomorrow's competition."

PNW and Ashland will begin their contest on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m. (CT).
