PNW Women's Tennis Finish Two Days of the GLIAC Tournament

PNW now prepares for their third day of tournament competition against Ashland University

MIDLAND, Mich. -- After completing two days of competition at the program's first appearance at the GLIAC Tournament, the Purdue University Northwest Pride now readies themselves for the third and final day against the Ashland University Eagles.

During the first day of the tournament, PNW faced off against the top seeded Wayne State Warriors in a battle that ended with the Warriors taking the matchup with a final score of 4-0.

"Drawing the top seed in an opening round of competition is never easy," said Head Coach Lucian Tabic. "Our players enjoyed the challenge though and they fought hard all match long."

The second day was a much different contest for the Pride when they faced off against Ferris State.

"Day 2 was a bit different in the sense that we had players able to capitalize on some opportunities," said Tabic. "Olivia Kjaer had a great performance at No. 4 Singles and she won her singles match in a 3rd set tiebreak."

Carolina Yepez also fought it out in a third set tiebreaker after taking the first set 6-4 and trailing in the second set 4-6. Ferris State eventually sprang ahead in the final set with the score over the Pride of 3-6. Patricia Dizon also had a close competition in singles against Ferris State's Silvia Verebes with final scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

In doubles competitions, the team of Lena van Bergen and Patricia Dizon fought it out with a close final of 6-4. At No. 3 doubles was Yepez and Anna Wachowski who closed a very tight contest down with an ending score of 5-7.

"Lena van Bergen came out very strong early on and she dictated the pace of her match right from the start," said Tabic. "She took a 1 set lead when the overall team match unfortunately was stopped."

The Pride now look forward to closing their first GLIAC Tournament appearance on Sunday, October 27 against the players from Ashland University.
