Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Pride Women's Tennis surged past the Davenport Panthers on Saturday with a 5-2 victory, putting the Pride in the victory column for the first time in conference this season.
Lena Van Bergen (Wesel, Germany/ Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium) triumphed in her singles match, overcoming her opponent 0-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Olivia Kjaer (Vedbaek, Sjaelland, Denmark/Oregaard Gymnasium) and
Julia Yanes-Barrera also won their matches in three thrilling sets, while
Anna Wachowski (Schererville, Ind./ Lake Central) and
Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecquador/ Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) only needed two sets to claim victory. Overall, the Pride won five of their six singles matches on Saturday morning.
"We lost a close doubles point, but everyone stepped up in their singles matches and went the distance," said Head Coach
Lucian Tabic. "We had four out of six matches go to a deciding third set, and overall, it was a great team result."
PNW Women's Tennis returns to the court on Saturday, October 19th against Michigan Tech, looking to secure another win next weekend. The match in Houghton, Michigan begins at 9:00 a.m. (CT).
