Box Score HAMMOND, Ind. -- After 110 minutes, the Purdue Northwest men's soccer team ended in a draw with the University of Illinois-Springfield 1-1. Sophomore Enrique Serna (Majadahonda, Spain/Colegio San Jaime) scored the lone goal for the Pride in the 15th minute.
Serna was attacking early, taking two shots on goal before finally burying one in the net on an assist from Jaime Garcia (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial). The teams continued to battle before going into the half with the 1-0 lead.
Rhys Wallace was able to even the score in the 61st minute on a free kick goal. Both teams had a multitude of chances as the half went on, but the teams wrapped up 90 minutes with a 1-1 score.
The teams ended up with nearly identical offensive statistics, as UIS ended up taking the majority of shots with 18, but PNW held the slight edge in shots on goal with seven.
Pride goalkeeper Bradley Brack (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville) ended up with four saves and allowed just one goal in his first start of the 2018 season.
Next up, the men's team will open up GLIAC play Friday when they travel to Midland, Mich. to take on the Northwood Timberwolves, who were the GLIAC regular-season champions in 2017.
