Box Score MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest volleyball team suffered a setback in their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Northwood, 3-0, Friday.
The Pride (1-8, 0-1 GLIAC) fell to the Timberwolves (4-5, 1-0 GLIAC) in three sets over 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 at Riepma Arena in Midland, Mich.
Senior Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) and freshman Jenna Dal Santo (St. John, Ind./Andrean) each led PNW with five kills. Dal Santo also recorded 13 digs while Jones recorded seven.
Northwood took the first set over the Pride, 25-17. PNW cut the deficit to three, 15-12, before Northwood went on a 10-5 run to end the set.
PNW and Northwood played a close second set as it was 18-17 in favor of the Timberwolves but NU scored the last seven out of the last eight points to win 25-18.
The Pride started the third set on a 10-5 run thanks to a kill by Jenna Dal Santo. PNW went on another run to lead 18-10 from a service ace by Morgan Spencer (Oswego, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) but Northwood answered with a 15-4 run to end the set and the match.
PNW returns to action tomorrow as the Pride have a quick turnaround as they travel to Big Rapids, Mich. tomorrow afternoon to take on Ferris State, match time scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT).
