Box Score HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest men's soccer team (2-4-1, 0-3 GLIAC) fell 2-1 Friday in a home match against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (3-1-2, 1-1 GLIAC).
The Pride were able to get on the board first in the 20th minute after sophomores Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township) and Matt Bahena (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower) played a little two-man game down the right side, opening up Nieves for a shot. After a save and some commotion in the box, Nieves recovered and punched the ball into the middle of the net.
SVSU was able to even the score in the 30th minute after a set piece from Michael Hamilton was knocked in by Alex Gloshen to make it 1-1. The teams would take it into the end of the half with no advantage either way.
Liam Travers was able to punctuate the victory for the Cardinals with a goal in the 58th minute. A physical match would continue until the final whistle, but the Pride were unable to match as they drop their third GLIAC match of the season.
Raul Garrido Garcia (Madrid, Spain/Menesiano) got the start for the PNW in goal and made two saves as he played the entire match.
Next up, the Pride will be back out at Pepsi Field Sunday as they play host to the Ashland Eagles at 12 p.m. (CST).
