GRIFFITH, Ind. -- Sophomore Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) won at No. 3 singles and senior Abigail Kvackhoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) won at No. 6 singles, but the Purdue University Northwest women's tennis team dropped its match to University of Southern Indiana Sunday.

The Screaming Eagles (6-8) defeated the Pride (6-15), 7-2, at Match Point Tennis and Fitness Club in Griffith, Ind., Sunday.

Yepez won her match at No. 3 singles against USI's Anna McDonald, 7-5, 6-2. Kvachkoff was also victorious at No. 6 singles in straight sets against USI's Lauryn Thompson, 6-2, 6-2. 

USI started the match sweeping doubles competition. Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) nearly pulled it off at No. 1 doubles against Southern Indiana's Kelsey Shipman and Lauren Hambrock but dropped their match, 8-5.

Anna Wachowski (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and Pia Schmedding (Hamburg, Germany) won three games at No. 2 doubles and fought hard, but ultimately fell against USI's Alex Jamison and Anna McDonald, 8-3.

Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) and Kvachkoff picked up a pair of games at No. 3 doubles, but lost their match to Southern Indiana's Jenny Mizikar and Thompson, 8-2.

van Bergen won three games in each of her sets, but dropped her match to Hambrock, 6-3, 6-3. Foltz almost pulled forced a three-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles, but came up short against USI's Shipman. 

Schmedding won two games in the first set, one in the second set, but lost her match at No. 4 singles against Southern Indiana's Jamison, 6-2, 6-1. Basu-Chavez picked up a game in the first set and a pair of games in the second set, but dropped her match to USI's Mizikar.
