PNW Men's Tennis Sweeps Central College in Dual Matches Sunday

PELLA, Iowa -- The Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team won back-to-back dual matches against Central College (Iowa) at the H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse in Pella, Iowa Sunday.

The Pride won the first match, 6-3 then PNW returned and won the second match, 7-2.

PNW 7, CENM 2
PNW started the second match by winning all three mathes at doubles competition. Moritz Gisy (Duesseldorf, Germany) and Carter Moldenhauer (Michigan City, Ind./Marquette) won at No. 1 doubles against Central's Josh Phillips and Kris Weeden, 8-3. 

Ulf Grosseloh (Maximiliansau, Germany) and Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) only dropped one game in the entire match, but the duo won the eight that mattered for the victory at No. 2 singles against Central's Danny Anderson and Jacob Keller, 8-1. Diego Pimentel (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Mauricio Villacres (Guayaquil, Ecuador) picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles against Jimmy Cunningham and Ethan St. John of Central College.

Grosseloh won at No. 1 singles against Garret Taylor in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Gisy also picked up the victory, but at No. 2 singles against Jacob Logan of the Dutch, 6-2, 6-1. 

Kah was also victorious in his match at No. 3 singles against Tom Palmer in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Villacres won a three-set thriller at No. 5 singles against Central's David Boschma, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11). 

Moldenhauer fought hard at No. 6 singles against CJ Cliff, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-2. Pimentel also put up a fight at No. 4 singles, but dropped his match to Central's William Isiminger, 6-1, 6-3.

Central College took the early advantage in match one, winning two out of the three at doubles competition. Grosseloh and Kah won at No. 2 doubles, which resulted in a tiebreaker 8-7 and won the tiebreaker 7-5.

Singles competition was a lot different, as the Pride dominated 5-1 to win the match. Kah returned at No. 3 singles and did not look back winning every game in both sets against Central's Kris Weeden, 6-0, 6-0. 

Gisy won at No. 2 singles against Boschma in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Grosseloh also won in straight sets at No. 1 singles against Central's Tom Palmer, 6-2, 6-2.

Pimentel picked up the victory at No. 5 singles against the Dutch's Jackson Lewton, 6-4, 6-1. Moldenhauer defeated Danny Anderson at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for the Pride in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Villacres forced a three-set tiebreaker, but ultimately fell at No. 4 singles against Josh Phillips, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10). 

PNW returns to action next Saturday, March 3, as the Pride travel to Davenport, Iowa, to take on the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees with match time scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
