GRIFFITH, Ind. -- Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville), Abigail Kvachkoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Chloe Conaway (Highland, Ind./Highland) all picked up victories at singles competition and Basu-Chavez and Kvachkoff won in doubles, which helped the Purdue Northwest women's tennis team pick up the victory, 8-1, at Match Point Tennis and Fitness Club in Griffith, Ind., Friday.
PNW started the match sweeping all three doubles matches. Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) only dropped one game in their match at No. 1 doubles, but won against Concordia's Heather Emke and Charity Felton, 8-1. Pia Schmedding (Hamburg, Germany) and Anna Wachowski (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) won at No. 2 doubles against CU's Mackenzie Devine and Kayla Verchelle, 8-2. Basu-Chavez and Kvachkoff won at No. 3 doubles against Kaylee Tucker and Taylor Kohlstorf, 8-2.
Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) won in dominating fashion at No. 1 singles, winning every game of each set against Concordia's Mackenzie Devine in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Schmedding did not look back and did not drop a game as well as she won at No. 2 singles against CU's Charity Felton, 6-0, 6-0.
Kvackhoff only dropped one game in the second set, but still won in straight sets against Concordia's Kayla Verchelle, 6-0, 6-1. Conaway won every game in the first set against CU's Taylor Kohlstorf, 6-0 and took the second set 6-3. Basu-Chavez picked up the victory at No. 4 singles against Concordia's Kaylee Tucker, 6-3, 7-5. Wachowski fought hard, but ultimately fell at No. 3 singles against Heather Emke, 6-3, 6-3.
PNW has a quick turnaround as the Pride travel to Illinois-Springfield (UIS) tomorrow, Feb. 24, to take on the Prairie Stars with match time scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
