BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Giulia Castiglioni (Lugano, Switzerland) won her second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the season but the Purdue Northwest women's tennis team dropped a GLIAC match to host Ferris State on Thursday.

The Bulldogs (2-1, 2-1 GLIAC) defeated the Pride (3-4, 0-4 GLIAC), 6-1, at FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

Giulia Castiglioni (Lugano, Switzerland) won at No. 2 singles against Ferris State's Silvia Verbes in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5.

FS started off winning all three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0. Castigloni and Pia Schmedding (Hamburg, Germany) won three games at No. 3 doubles but FS's Sam Stephenson and Amiena Huston took the match, 6-3.

Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) fought hard in a three-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles but Ferris State's Nika Hein won the match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill.) forced a third set at No. 4 singles but ulimately fell to FS's Isabela Paixao after dropping the first set 6-3, Dizon fought back and took the second set 4-6 before dropping the tiebreaker 6-0.
