Ross's Goal Leads PNW Past Northern Michigan Sunday

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Senior Shelby Ross (Marquette, Mich./Columbus North) scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute in her hometown of Marquette, Michigan as the Purdue University Northwest women's soccer team defeated Northern Michigan Sunday.

The Pride (4-11, 2-6 GLIAC) defeated the Wildcats (4-8, 1-5 GLIAC), 1-0, at NMU Soccer Field Sunday.

With the score tied, 0-0, Senior Shayna Coy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) found Ross as she connected on a goal from the upper 90 and the far side of the box in the 75th minute as it was the game-winning goal and the only goal of the match.

The Wildcats had eight shots on goal but freshman Halle Stork (Stanwood, Mich./Big Rapids) came up big with five huge saves. Senior Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind, Seymour) picked up the win in goal for PNW as she started the second half and recorded two saves. NMU still ended up outshooting PNW, 20-9, but the Wildcats were not able to score a goal.

NMU's Caroline Halonen led the Wildcats with three shots on goal. Eight PNW players recorded shots, sophomore Brook Switzer (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) led the way with two and one was on goal.

PNW returns to action Sunday, October 21 as the Pride travel to Kenosha, Wis. to take on Parkside starting at 2:30 p.m. CT.
