Volleyball Unable to Capture Victory at Midwest Region Crossover

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team (2-20, 0-11 GLIAC) dropped both matches it played in Saturday at the 2018 Midwest Region Crossover. PNW lost in its opening match to Lake Erie College in three sets, before dropping a heartbreaking five-set match to Ohio Dominican University.

MATCH 1

Jenna Pasko (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) put together an outstanding match as she put up 16 kills and hit a .302 against the Hawks of Quincy. Freshman Jenna Dal Santo (St. John, Ind./Andrean) ended up with a double-double after 19 digs and 12 kills. 

The Pride jumped out to an early lead and never let up in the first set. They took four consecutive points early punctuated by a Pasko service ace to make it 8-3. Abigail Negri (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) closed out the set with a kill from Christina Dal Santo (St. John, Ind./Andrean). 

PNW once again jumped out to a lead, including four service aces from Kylie Tincher (Sellersburg, Ind./Rock Creek Academy). The Storm would roar back and battle, but PNW took a 21-18 lead on a Dal Santo kill. Lake Erie took seven of the next nine points en route for a 25-23 victory. 

The Storm completely controlled the third set, as the Pride were never able to get anything going. Hailey Nielsen closed out the set with a kill to give LEC a 25-11 win.

In the last set, Lake Erie continued to dictate the match as they were defeated 25-16. Alexis Thomas closed the match out with a kill from Crystal Kedroske.

MATCH 2

The Pride had three players finish with double-digit kills, including senior Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) who ended up with 15 kills off the bench and hit a .364. Brooke Carter (Chicago, Ill./King College Prep) put up seven kills and had four blocks while hitting the same percentage. Pasko once again shined with 13 kills while Jenna Dal Santo had 16 kills and nine digs.

In what ended up being a hotly contested set, the Panthers were able to close it out in extra games. Despite several runs from the Pride, Ohio Dominican closed the match out with a kill from Alexis Young.

Both teams continued to battle before going down 14-13. PNW rattled off 12 straight points and ended up winning the set by a final of 25-16. A Zoe Carmichael service error gave the Pride the victory and evened the match at 1 set a piece.

In the third, ODU took an early 4-0 lead and never let go as they owned the set. Amanda Remmetter closed it out with a kill set up by Ashton Barr.

The Pride rallied to take the fourth set, as Panther star Alexis Young was blocked at the net by Carter and Negri to give the Black and Gold a 25-22 victory.

In the fifth set PNW fell behind early before making a run late, but ultimately lost their final match of the tournament in the fifth set 15-11 after another kill from Alexis Young.

Next up, the Pride return to GLIAC play with a match in Kenosha, Wisc. aganist the Parkside Rangers on October 19th at 6 pm (CST).
