MIDLAND, Mich. -- Senior Abby Kvachkoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) picked up the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) singles win for Purdue University Northwest in the Pride's loss to Northwood Sunday. 

Kvachkoff won at No. 6 singles against Northwood's Anna Goncharova, 6-4 and won 10-2 on a tiebreaker as the Pride lost to the Northwood Timberwolves, 8-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) took a game, but fell to Northwood's Tetyana Pavych and Carol Arnez-Mercado, 8-1.

Later on in the match in singles competition, Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) picked up three games in the first set and three in the second set, but lost to NU's Vasilisa Mikhaylova, 6-3, 6-3. 

van Bergen took two games at No. 2 singles in the first set, but ended up falling to Northwood's Olesia Riabchuk 6-2, 6-0.  Foltz won a game in the first set at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. 

Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) took a game at No. 4 singles, but NU's Kate Berestovenko took both sets, 6-1, 6-0. 

PNW returns to action Thursday, Sept. 21, as the Pride travel to Mishawaka, Ind., to take on the Bethel College Pilots with match time scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.
