Men's Hoops Earns 91-84 Victory Over St. Francis

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest men's basketball team picked up a 91-84 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe St. Francis (Ill.) Wednesday night at the Fitness and Recreation Center.

The Pride (12-14, 10-8 CCAC) sit just one game behind the Fighting Saints (17-10, 11-7 CCAC) in the North Division of the CCAC Conference with three games remaining in the regular season.

Juniors Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) and Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) led the scoring with game-high 20 points each, with Johnson garnering a double-double bringing down 10 rebounds.

Senior Mike Williams (Gary, Ind./Lew Wallace) (Gary, Ind./Lew Wallace) added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Duron Ivery (South Bend, Ind./Washington) (South Bend, Ind./Washington) came up clutch off the bench, scoring 14 points with four made three-pointers.

Cyril Lewis (Houston, Texas/Virginia Union) (Houston, Texas/Virginia Union) and Chandler Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) (Covington, Ind./Covington) each added 11 points on the night to round out the double-digit scorers for the Pride.

The Black and Gold jumped out of the gates fast, taking a 25-13 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half.

St. Francis would cut in to its deficit with 2:14 remaining, 32-26, but the Pride would answer back and take a ten-point lead leading heading in to the break.

With the Pride owning a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half, the Fighting Saints tried some late game heroics, but the Pride would refuse to let down, coming away with the 91-84 victory.

PNW shot a blistering 48.3 percent from beyond the arc while shooting 58.2 percent from the field, compared to 49.2 percent from the Fighting Saints.

PNW returns to action Saturday, Feb. 11, when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind. for a CCAC contest with Holy Cross. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. (CT).
