Allen Tough; Purdue Northwest Women Fall to No. 18 Michigan Tech, 86-40

Box Score

Westville, Ind. – Freshman Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) led all scorers with 16 points, but the Purdue Northwest women's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game to No. 18 Michigan Tech, 86-40, Saturday afternoon at H.D. Kesling Gymnasium at the James B. Dworkin Student Services & Activities Complex in Westville, Ind.  Unfortunately, the Pride could not get into a rhythm offensively connecting on just 22 percent (13-for-58) of their shot attempts from the field.

Senior Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) finished with five points and team-leading eight rebounds for PNW, while freshman guard Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) added six points and five rebounds.  Senior guard Lindsay Winter led the Huskies with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.  Michigan Tech shot 58 percent (35-for-60) from the floor in Saturday's match-up.

A pair of lay-ups by Allen to open the game got Purdue Northwest off to a good start and another lay-up later in the period gave the Pride a 10-6 lead with just over five minutes left in the quarter.  A lay-up by Nennig with three minutes remaining pushed the lead to six, 14-8, but the Huskies finished the frame strong scoring the final eight points to take a 16-14 edge into the second quarter.  The drought continued for the Pride as Michigan Tech opened the period with a 16-0 run to build a 32-14 lead with five minutes left in the half.

The Huskies continued to extend their advantage taking a 44-22 lead into the locker room at the break.  The offensive woes continued in the second half as the Pride scored nine points in the third quarter and trailed 60-31 heading into the final period.  Allen scored six of PNW's nine points in the fourth quarter, but Michigan Tech pulled away to capture the 86-40 win.

Purdue Northwest (1-7 overall/1-3 GLIAC) returns to action on Saturday, December 16, hosting Grand Valley State University (Mich.).  The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT start at John Friend Court at the Fitness & Recreation Center in Hammond, Ind.
