GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Senior Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) won her first career Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at PNW, third in school history as the Pride fell to Davenport University (Mich.) at the Riverview Athletic Club Saturday.
Foltz picked up the victory at No. 2 singles in straight sets against Davenport's Adeline Nelson, 6-2, 7-5.
The Panthers (1-4, 1-4 GLIAC) defeated the Pride (5-5, 0-5 GLIAC), 6-3.
Davenport took the early advantage in the match, winning two out of the three matches in doubles competition. Abby Kvackhoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Anna Wachowski (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) were able to win their match by default. Foltz and Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) dropped a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles against DU's Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson, 8-3.
Wachowski put up a fight at No. 5 singles, forcing a three-set tie-breaker, but ultimately fell to DU's Sophie Gossett, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) and Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) fought hard, but ultimately fell to DU's Terin Everse and Bridget Barrett, 8-2.
van Bergen won two games in the first set and four in the second set, but lost her match to DU's Steph Ritson, 6-2, 6-4. Yepez won a game in the first set and three games in the second set, but dropped her match, 6-1, 6-3.
PNW returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, as the Pride travel to Marie, Mich., for a GLIAC match-up as they take on Lake Superior State with match time set for 9 a.m. CT.
