MARQUETTE, Mich. - Despite nine kills and 10 assists by sophomore Brooke Ahrens (Covington, Ind./Covington), the Purdue University Northwest volleyball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road contest to Northern Michigan Friday evening, 3-0, in Marquette, Mich.

Senior Gabrielle Martin (DeMotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) notched eight kills for the Pride. 

Sophomore Eudora Negri (Munster, Ind./Munster) led PNW with 11 assists and junior Kylie Tincher (Sellersburg, Ind./Rock Creek Academy) tallied six digs to headline the leaders for the Black and Gold. 

The Pride took a 6-5 advantage early on in the first set, before the Wildcats retook the lead midway through the game before winning the opening set, 25-14. 

During the middle of the second set, Northern Michigan took a 12-7 lead, but the Pride battled back to get within a point, after a kill from senior Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County) made it 16-15 in favor of the Wildcats.

Northern Michigan answered back to take a four-point advantage, but a kill from Martin brought the Black and Gold within a point, 22-21. 

The Wildcats ended on a 3-0 run to win the second set, 25-21.

Midway through the final set, Ahrens connected on a kill to even the score at 15-15, and later tied the set at 21-21 in Set 3.

However, Northern Michigan held on to win the final set 25-21 and come away with the three-set win.

Purdue Northwest (6-18 overall/1-9 GLIAC) returns to action Saturday afternoon, when the Pride travel to Houghton, Mich., for a GLIAC contest against Michigan Tech starting at 3 p.m. CT.
