HAMMOND, Ind. -- Senior Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and senior Abby Kvackhoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) won at No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles respectively in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition Friday, but it was not enough as the Purdue University Northwest women's tennis team dropped its match to Ashland University (Ohio) at Community Hospital Tennis Complex in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.
Foltz defeated Ashland's Hazu Ogino at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Kvackhoff won at No. 6 singles against Ashland's Natalie Keron in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Ashland started the match strong by taking all three doubles matches against PNW.
At No. 3 singles, Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) fought hard winning three games in each set, but ultimately fell to Ashland's Camille Ringot, 6-3, 6-3. Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) dropped her match at No. 1 singles to Brianna Brdicka, 6-1, 6-2.
Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) picked up a win in the second set, but lost her match against Ashland's Anna Hart, 6-1, 6-0. Anna Wachowski (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) captured a win in her first set, but dropped her match at No. 5 singles to Allison Brooks, 6-1, 6-0.
PNW has a quick turnaround as the Pride return to action Saturday morning to take on Tiffin University (Ohio) with match time scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. CT at Community Hospital Tennis Complex in Dowling Park.
