HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's tennis team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road match to Michigan Tech, 9-0, Sunday at the Gates Tennis Center in Houghton, Mich.
Michigan Tech started the match by sweeping all the doubles matches. Brooke Foltz (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) put up a fight at No. 1 doubles almost pulling off the victory, but ultimately fell to Michigan Tech's Ivoni Gorgioski and Vicky Quinde, 9-7.
MTU's Paola Quintana edged out van Bergen at No. 1 singles in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (10-7). Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) put up a fight at No. 3 singles, but ultimately fell to Vicky Quinde, 6-4, 6-4.
Abby Kvackhoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) won two games in the first set, but dropped her match to Allenca Rolim, 6-2, 6-0.
PNW returns to action on Friday, Oct. 20, as the Pride return home to host GLIAC opponent Ashland University (Ohio) with the match scheduled for a 10 a.m. CT start.
