HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's tennis dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at the Community Hospital Tennis Complex Sunday.

The Grand Valley State University Lakers (2-0, 2-0 GLIAC) defeated the Pride (4-4, 0-4 GLIAC), 9-0, Sunday at Dowling Park.

GVSU started the match by sweeping all doubles matches.  At No. 2 doubles, Cynthia Basu-Chavez (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) and Carolina Yepez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) won a game, but dropped the match to GVSU's Marji Balliain and Nicole Heniniger, 8-1.  Abby Kvackhoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Breanna Baez (Hammond, Ind./Whiting) also won a game in their match at No. 3 doubles, but ultimately fell to GVSU's Abby Perkins and Livia Christman, 8-1. 

Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) won a pair of games in each set at No. 1 singles, but dropped her match, 6-2, 6-2.  Yepez took a game at No. 3 singles, but ultimately fell to GVSU's Aimee Moccia, 6-0, 6-2. 

Baez also won a game at No. 6 singles, but dropped her contest to Nicole Heniniger, 6-0, 6-1.

PNW returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6, as the Pride host Midland University (Neb.) with match time scheduled for 11 a.m. at Dowling Park's Community Hospital Tennis Complex.
