Late Goals Sink PNW Women’s Soccer in 4-0 Loss to Ashland

HAMMOND, Ind. – With all four of Ashland's goals coming in the final 31 minutes of regulation, the Purdue Northwest women's soccer team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game, 4-0, to the visiting Eagles Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Field in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind.  

Junior Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) recorded nine saves for the Pride playing all 90 minutes in goal.  

After a defensive battle by both teams in the first half, Ashland tallied the game's first goal in the 60th minute off the foot of senior Morgan Bittengle. Five minutes later, the Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by senior Carson Janssen.

In the 68th minute, sophomore Korinna Lakes pushed the advantage to 3-0 with the game's third goal. Senior Kelsey McKernan provided the assists for all of Ashland's first three goals. The final goal came off of a corner kick by sophomore Juliana Markovic in the 83rd minute.

Freshman midfielder Allie Hill (Valparaiso, Ind./Boone Grove) and junior Shelby Ross (Marquette, Mich./Columbus North) tallied the Pride's two shots on goal of the game.

Purdue Northwest (0-8-0 overall/0-4-0) begins a four-game road stretch on Friday, October 6, heading to Midland, Mich., to take on Northwood University (Mich.). The GLIAC game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. ET start at Dean Soccer Field.
