Women's Basketball Defeats Rochester, 90-73, Saturday

MARION, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team picked up a 90-73 victory over Rochester College in the Consolation game of the Leah Whitaker Memorial Tournament held at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Senior guard Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central) led all scorers with 27 points, connecting on a quartet of three point field goals and pulling down seven rebounds with four assists.

Ellie Michalski (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) recorded a double-double for the Black and Gold, shooting 7-of-14 from the field with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Freshman Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) recorded 19 points and four rebounds while Darien Thompson (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) (Anderson, Ind./Anderson) notched 10 points with four rebounds and four assists.

Rochester took an early 19-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but the Pride bounced back nicely in the second quarter to take a 22-21 advantage.

Both teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the half, with the Black and Gold taking a 37-35 advantage heading in to the break.

The Pride came out of the locker room hot, starting the second half on a large run to take a 55-39 lead midway through the third quarter.

Rochester couldn't find an answer to the Pride, who extended their lead to over 20 points late in the fourth quarter, before coming away with the 90-73 victory.

The Pride shot 6-of-11 from beyond the arc, compared to just 2-of-17 from the Warriors, with the Black and Gold causing 23 turnovers from Rochester.

Allyssa Copley led the Warriors with 20 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and bringing down 11 rebounds while Roby Pruitt rounded out the leaders for Rochester with 12 points.

Purdue Northwest returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 16, when they host Calumet St. Joseph for the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest of the season at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at the Fitness and Recreation Center.
