Purdue University Northwest has announced the appointed of Vanessa Quinn, Ph.D. as Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), beginning in the 2020 spring semester. Quinn is a member of the Department of Biological Sciences and the Honors College where she serves as a professor of biology and associate dean in the Honors College.

"I believe that higher education should be accessible to everyone who is willing to put in the effort," Quinn said. "It is my job to help guide, coach and mentor my students throughout their career in higher education. Student-athletes are an excellent example of the student who is willing to work hard on their studies, but also on the field and in the community. The dedication of our student-athletes is inspiring to me and I am excited to have the opportunity to work closely with this talented group of young men and women."

The Faculty Athletic Representative plays a strategic role at the university, ensuring the academic integrity of the intercollegiate athletics program, facilitating institutional control of intercollegiate athletics, and enhancing the student-athlete experience at Purdue University Northwest. The FAR represents PNW and its faculty in the relationship between the NCAA and the institution. The FAR also provides significant leadership in the governance of PNW's intercollegiate athletics programs.

"The Faculty Athletic Representative adds independent overview of Athletics by a faculty member who reports directly to me," said PNW Chancellor Thomas L. Keon. "Dr. Quinn brings significant experience to this role as a PNW faculty member who can provide oversight to uphold the high academic standards represented by our student-athletes."

"I am pleased that Vanessa Quinn will serve as Faculty Athletic Representative and look forward to her efforts to enhance the student-athlete experience," said Director of Athletics Rick Costello.
