PNW Athletics announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class

The Purdue University Northwest Athletics Department unveiled its 2025 Hall of Fame Class that includes three former student-athletes and one former head coach: Sergio Reyes (Men's Soccer), Miguel David (Men's Soccer), Gabrielle Martin (Volleyball), and Gary Hayes (Men's and Women's Basketball Head Coach). The four former PNW standouts will be inducted on Saturday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m., during an honorary brunch at the White Lodging School of Hospitality and Tourism Management Building on the Purdue Northwest Campus.
 
"On behalf of the Pride of PNW, I would like to extend my congratulations to Sergio, Miguel, Gabby, and Coach Hayes on their well-deserved induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame," said Rick Costello, Director of Athletics. "Each of these individuals made an incredible impact on PNW, and through their dedication and achievements, they helped lay the foundation for the success of Purdue Northwest Athletics."
 
Sergio Reyes '17 (Men's Soccer)
Reyes served as a tremendous leader on and off the field for the Purdue Northwest Men's Soccer program. During his two years with the Pride, Reyes was a team captain, started in 35 of 36 matches in his career, and in 2015 he helped lead the men's soccer program to their first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance. His off the pitch accolades speak for themselves. In 2016, Reyes received 2016 COSIDA Academic All-American honors, 2016 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, 2016 COSIDA Academic All-District, and 2016 CCAC All-Academic honors for his outstanding efforts in the classroom. Reyes was also part of the 2015 and 2016 teams that reached the NAIA National Tournaments. Reyes was the true definition of what it meant to be a student-athlete during his time in Northwest Indiana.
 
Miguel David '18 (Men's Soccer)
David left the pitch as one of the best goalkeepers to ever come through Purdue Northwest. David was a four-year member of the men's soccer program starting in over 45 career games as the goalkeeper with 28 wins, 184 saves, 14 career shutouts, and 1.09 goals against average. He was three-time First Team All-CCAC selection as a goalkeeper, earned numerous CCAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades in his career, and in 2016 he earned NSCAA Midwest All-Region honors. David was also part of the 2015 and 2016 teams that reached the NAIA National Tournaments. David also received GLIAC All-Academic honors in 2017 for his work in the classroom.
 
Gabrielle Martin '18 (Volleyball)
Martin left her mark on the court for the volleyball program over her four-year career. During her playing tenure, Martin finished with an outstanding 1,320 kills, 1,047 digs, a 3.28 kills per set, and 185 service aces while playing in over 121 total career matches. Her 458 kills in 2016 is the current single-season record for the volleyball program and her 3.28 kills per set is the all-time career high for Purdue Northwest. Martin was a three-time All-CCAC selection earning First Team honors in 2016 after a stellar junior season. Her talents off the court were recognized as well as Martin was a two-time CCAC All-Academic honoree. 
 
Gary Hayes '95-'04 (Men's and Women's Basketball Head Coach)
Coach Gary Hayes, with over 33 years of coaching experience in Northwest Indiana, led Purdue Calumet men's and women's basketball programs to 214 wins. During his tenure at Purdue Calumet, Coach Hayes led the women's head program to three CCAC Conference Championships and was named Coach of the Year four times. His 1995-96 Purdue Calumet Women's Basketball Team recorded a 27-5 record claiming the CCAC Conference Championship and becoming the first team to qualify for the NAIA National Women's Basketball Tournament. That season, the Peregrines were ranked 25th in the NAIA with a defense that ranked 5th in the nation. As the men's basketball coach, his teams were constantly ranked as the number one defense in the conference and ranked Top 20 in the country each year.
Additionally, Coach Hayes was a teacher at the Gary Community School Corporation and Lake Station Community Schools, served ten years as an Athletic Director for Lake Station Community Schools, and has also held coaching positions at Lake Station, Griffith, Portage, Gary Wirt, Gary Westside. He was also recently inducted into the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.Coach Hayes and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from Indiana State University, a Master's Degree in Education from Indiana University and graduated from Clark High School. He currently serves as an analyst for Purdue Northwest Men's and Women's Basketball games streamed on FloCollege.
