A Historic Year! PNW Athletics celebrates record setting 2023-24 season

Purdue Northwest Pride athletics celebrated a historic 2023-24 athletic year with teams bringing home championships including the Pride's first GLIAC team title, accomplishing multiple records, and players earning record-breaking season's and career's with the school's first-ever National Player of the Year honoree.
 
The 2023-24 year featured several incredible accomplishments:
  • 1 National Player of the Year - Sam Bourdages of the DI Hockey team received 2024 ACHA DI National Player of the Year honors after a record-breaking season. He became the first Player of the Year recipient regardless of sport and affiliation for the Pride.
  • 2 All-Americans - Hugo Lorenzo - Men's Soccer and D'Shawn Dorsey - Men's Track & Field.
  • 7 Years Competing in the NCAA
  • 7th - Final ranking for ACHA DI Hockey Team
  • 9 Total Championships
    • Men's Soccer: 2023 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Champion (first team GLIAC championship in PNW history).
    • ACHA DI Hockey: 2024 GLCHL Tournament Champion (first in program history).
    • JC Ramirez (Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field): 2024 Triple Jump Champion in both indoor and outdoor. (Four total career GLIAC titles).
    • Kiara Spates (Women's Indoor Track & Field): 2024 GLIAC Indoor Women's Track & Field Triple Jump Champion.
    • Esports (League of Legends): 2023 Battle of Indiana Champions, 2024 GLIAC Tournament Champions, 2024 MEC Regular Season Champions, and 2024 MEC Tournament Champions.
  • 17 Consecutive Semesters over 3.0 GPA
  • 33 wins in softball (second straight season)
  • 96% Percent Retention Rate
  • 898 Gifts on PNW Day of Giving

Men's Soccer
2023 GLIAC Men's Soccer Tournament Champions.
Clinched birth in NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament (first PNW team to qualify for the NCAA D2 tournament).
Hugo Lorenzo - 2023 All-American, D2CCA Midwest Player of the Year, and GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Eligh Williams - GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
 
Women's Soccer
Brinley Hefty - Honorable Mention.
Kaci Pampreen - GLIAC Player of the Week (first in program history), broke single-season record for points and became the women's soccer career record-holder for goals.
 
Volleyball
Most wins in program history.
Clinched spot in GLIAC Tournament.
Anika Huelskamp and Arra Cottrell - Second Team All-GLIAC (highest postseason honors in program history).
Livia Thomsen - GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week (first in program history).
 
Women's Cross Country
Christina Shaginaw set new 6K record with 21:45.6 at NCAA Division II Midwest Regionals.
 
ACHA DI Hockey
2024 GLCHL Tournament Champion.
Clinched spot in ACHA DI National Tournament.
Reached Elite 8 of ACHA DI National Tournament.
Finished the season ranked #7 (highest ranking in program history).
Most wins in program history.
Sam Bourdages - ACHA DI National Player of the Year and GLCHL Player of the Year.
RJ Swaw - GLCHL Rookie of the Year.
 
Women's Basketball
Most wins in program history.
Clinched berth in GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
Dash Shaw - 1,000-point scorer, all-time leading scorer, field goals made, and free throws made for PNW in NCAA Division II era, and First Team All-GLIAC.
Mercedes Simmons - All-time leader in blocks and rebounds, First Team All-GLIAC, All-GLIAC Defensive Team, and earned GLIAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same weekend.
 
Men's Basketball
Most wins in program history.
Clinched spot in GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
 
Men's Indoor Track & Field
JC Ramirez - GLIAC Indoor Triple Jump Champion and U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II All Region.
 
Women's Indoor Track & Field
Kiara Spates - GLIAC Indoor Triple Jump Champion and U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II All Region.
 
Women's Tennis
Salma Raslan - GLIAC Player of the Week and was a recipient of the 2024 NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Scholarship. Salma also took first place in the singles tournament C Division and became PNW's first ever ITA singles winner in program history in the 2023 fall season.
Sienna Lopez - earned fourth straight First Team All-GLIAC honors (only PNW student athlete to garner four First Team All GLIAC accolades).
 
Men's Tennis
Most wins in program history.
 
Men's Outdoor Track & Field
JC Ramirez - GLIAC Outdoor Triple Jump Champion.
D'Shawn Dorsey and JC Ramirez clinches spots in the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Men's Track & Field National Championships becoming the first Pride student-athletes to do so.
D'Shawn Dorsey - earned 2024 All-American honors in high jump.
 
Baseball
Andrew Petsche - broke single season record and became all-time career leader in saves.
 
Softball
Tied for most wins in a single-season with 33 (back-to-back 30 wins season).
Head Coach Tristan Zink eclipsed 100-career wins
Finished third in GLIAC.
Clinched spot in GLIAC Softball Tournament and tallied three wins to finish third.
Gabby Paliska - pitched softball programs first-ever PERFECT GAME in a 10-inning, 1-0 win vs. Bentley in Florida Spring Games.
Selena Michko - became PNW softball's all-time leader in homeruns and RBIs. Earned 2024 Spring GLIAC Commisioners Award.
Maddison Roop - became PNW softball's all-time leader and single-season record holder in wins, strikeouts, complete games, innings pitched, and appearances.
Aubrey Shroyer - became PNW softball's all-time leader in hits, steals, doubles, and runs scored.
Kylie Dugan - broke single season records for hits and steals as a freshman.
 
Esports
League of Legends - 2023 Battle of Indiana Champions, 2024 GLIAC Tournament Champions, 2024 MEC Regular Season Champions, and 2024 MEC Tournament Champions. Also reached Sweet 16 of National Tournament.
The overall Esports team finished second in the GLIAC Tournament.


Purdue Northwest Athletics commends the student-athletes and coaches for their outstanding season and record-breaking performances. The Pride are excited to see what the future holds for the 2024-25 athletic year.
