D1 Hockey's Historical season comes to an end at ACHA D1 National Tournament

Purdue Northwest's #11 ranked D1 Hockey team saw their remarkable season conclude this Sunday with a 3-1 loss to #3 Central Oklahoma University in the Elite Eight of the ACHA D1 national tournament.

The Basics

  • Hayden Maslowski led the Pride by scoring the lone goal.
  • Max Beller (Sioux City, Iowa) and Craig Herman (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) each contributed an assist each.
  • Sophomore Cooper Olson (Maple Grove, Minn./) played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Pride notching 29 saves.
  • Sam Sykes, Vitalii Mikhailov, and Zach Guerra led the Broncos each scoring a goal.
  • Doug Wakelyn played all 60 minutes in the net for Central Oklahoma making 37 total saves.

The Breakdown
  • During the first period, the Broncos secured a 1-0 lead over the Pride by finding the back of the net halfway through the period.
  • In the second period, both teams had promising scoring opportunities, but solid defensive efforts from each side kept the score unchanged. 
  • Moving into the third period, the Broncos extended their lead with another goal, prompting a response from the Pride as Max Beller (Sioux City, Iowa) found the back of the net. Despite the Pride's comeback efforts, the Broncos sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute, ultimately concluding with a 3-1 victory.
