HAMMOND, Ind. —
Nick Tomczyk has resigned as head men's ice hockey coach at Purdue University Northwest after accepting a coaching position at Culver Academy. A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately as PNW prepares for its first season as a Division 1 member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) in the upcoming 2022-23 campaign.
"I would like to thank
Nick Tomczyk for his leadership of the Purdue Northwest men's ice hockey program," said Director of Athletics
Rick Costello. "On behalf of the PNW Pride, I sincerely appreciate Nick's efforts over the past year and wish him the best of luck moving forward."
Tomczyk was hired at the start of the 2021-22 season as the second head men's ice hockey coach in school history. He helped lead PNW to the program's first winning record with a 16-15 overall ledger, while guiding the Pride in making history by capturing the Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL) Orange Division regular season title. PNW also made a trip to the NCHL Tournament championship game where the Pride fell 5-4 in overtime. Under Tomczyk, the Pride had two named to the NCHL All-Rookie Team including forward
Sam Bourdages (Hearst, Ontario) and defenseman
Ryan Gallant (Oshawa, Ontario). Also, sophomore forward
Craig Herman (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) was named the PNW Male Athlete of the Year.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director
Rick Costello and Chancellor Keon for giving me the opportunity to be the head coach of PNW hockey," Tomczyk said. "PNW will always hold a special place with our family.
I am honored to have worked with some of the most talented coaches, staff and trainers in collegiate athletics. I also wanted to thank the assistant hockey coaches for all of their support. They were always there to lend a helping hand. I am very grateful for the players that I was able to coach this season. They achieved so much this year and it would not have happened without their commitment to the hockey program."
PNW Hockey will no doubt become a nationally-ranked program and a contender for years to come.
Thank you to all of our fans who supported us this year. We wish PNW nothing but the best!"
