Week at a Glance: January 27th to February 2nd

HAMMOND, Ind. -- 1/30 – Grand Valley State at Purdue Northwest

The Pride returns to the Hammond Fitness and Recreation Center to host the Grand Valley State Lakers this Thursday evening. The women will tipoff at 5 p.m. (CST), followed by the men's game at 7 p.m. (CST).

The PNW Women's Basketball team (5-14, 4-7 GLIAC) is coming off a narrow 77-70 overtime loss to the Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday, January 25. After being down by as many as 18 points in the second quarter and 14 points in the third quarter, the Pride made a ferocious comeback to take the lead in the last minute of regulation before ultimately falling in the extra period. 

Thursday will mark the Black and Gold's fifth all-time matchup against the No. 4 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers (18-1, 10-1 GLIAC), who holds the 5-0 series lead.

 

The men's team (7-11, 2-8 GLIAC) also looks to get back in the win column after a loss on the road against No. 14-ranked Ferris State. In a tough battle with the Bulldogs, the Pride let the game slip away with just under five minutes left in the game, losing a close back-and-forth contest at 82-77. Thursday will also mark the Pride's fifth all-time contest against the Lakers (16-3, 9-2 GLIAC), a series that GVSU leads 3-1. 

2/1 – Davenport University at Purdue Northwest

Following Thursday's contest against the Lakers, the Pride will host the Davenport Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Davenport Women's Basketball currently stands 6-13 overall with a 1-10 conference record. The last time these two programs faced one another was on December 5 in Grand Rapids, where PNW took a 77-76 victory.

The Panthers men will be coming to Hammond with an overall record of 14-7 and a conference record of 6-5. On December 5, Davenport beat the Pride 93-74.

Tipoff for the women's game is set for 1 p.m. with the men to follow at 3 p.m. (CST). The day will also mark Kids Day, sponsored by Spark Marketing, at PNW. Admission is free for kids and will feature a day packed with free t-shirts, balloon artists, giveaways, games, Leo the Lion and Pride Basketball!
